A Healthy Home: Easy Steps to a chemical free home

There are a number of things you can do on a quest to have a healthy home and one of those is to work towards a chemical free home. It may sound hard but the number of products out there that ACTUALLY WORK is growing and there are alternatives for almost everything you thought you couldn’t go without.  Chemicals are poisonous and the less we have around our home, family, and selves the better. With the skyrocketing rates of cancer it just makes sense to do everything you can to keep your family safe – can’t hurt to try.  This would be a great goal for 2016!

Theives: This is an antiviral, antibacterial cleaner that is non toxic. Can be used for general household cleaning with a fresh scent.

Bathroom toiletries

If the label says soduim lauryl sulfate stay away from it. Sodium lauryl sulfate is a soap-like foaming chemical that is great for de-greasing the garage floor.

–  There are several organic brands that are clean.  Green Beaver is one.   Check labels in the health food stores.

*Bonus: anything with those micro-beads is extremely harmful for the environment so try to find toothpaste that does not have these.

Shampoo (& conditioner)

Again, sodium lauryl sulcate needs to be avoided and the label should say NO GMO.

–  A great brand option is CURELLE.  They are based out of Vancouver.  They do not test on animals, and they are biogredable, fragrance-free (chemical fragrances contain up to 700 toxins), have no added colors or toxic solvents, and are not GMO.  Curelle has shampoo, conditioner and hair gel.

Skin care and make up

Look for Organic, NON GMO and fragrance free products.  You will have to go to a reputable health food store since these healthy alternatives are not available at your local pharmacy.

Facial skin care

Replace all of your evening face and wrinkle creams with organic pure JOJOBA OIL.  It has a molecular structure that is similar to human skin and is actually a liquid wax, not an oil.

Skin conditions

Mayan Magic Balm.  For amazing healing of Eczema, Psoriasis, burns, rashes, scars, small skin sores etc…
– It is preservative and scent free and has natural, safe, ingredients.

Vitamins and supplements

Look for NO GMO, Organic, and no artificial colours (Gummy vitamins are full of sugar and dyes).  It is best to talk to a Naturopathic Dr.  for advice on what you really need for optimum health.

Wound care

A tube of Calendula gel or cream will replace many pharmaceutical creams in your medicine cupboard.  Calendula heals fast and is clean!

Muscle pulls, back pain, arthritis, joint pain, sprains, strains, restless leg

Mercy MSM cream is super for relieving pain and reducing inflammation.  It is made in Red Deer, AB.

– Replaces toxic pharmaceuticals like A535, Voltarin, cold gels etc…

Moving toward a chemical free home is a process.  Tackle on item or area at a time so that you don’t become overwhelmed by the goal.  Natural products are becoming more readily available as producers are encouraged to create more innovative clean products as a result of the changing trend.
